My name is Mary yekini, I am a care leaver who was in the care of the local authorities from the first time being when I was 13 and another time being when I was 17. I’m writing this so that you can understand a little bit about me and my experience. 

When I was an adult around the age of 19 and studying media in college I dated a metropolitan police officer whom I thought was a really nice guy, was very caring however there was an incident where this individual sexually abused me he had sex with me by force although I was young, had no knowledge neither understood what I was going through I decided not to tell anyone until I had a therapist whom I confided in and told her about my rape experience she helped me with understanding that what I went through wasn’t okay gave me tools to understand my trauma, so I could go through life a lot better. 

Fast forward to 2022 I moved into an L&Q apartment and i started hearing voices about 1 or 2 days after moving in which is something that hasn’t happened to me before from mental health team this is now an alleged diagnosis of schizophrenia psychosis. Hearing this voices has been very difficult and hard for me, I also hear from the perpetrator of the rape that took place with me this has caused my mental health to be worse and there’s a lot that’s been affecting me both on a spiritual level as well as emotionally. I try to be very strong by making sure that I don’t let the voices get to me and control my mental state. 

i wrote this so people can be aware of some of the harms that comes with dating a police office, I’m not saying they are all bad however it is important to be aware of the cons of dating some officers and knowing how to protect yourselves including loved ones.

I have reported it to the police however I don’t know what they are planning to do at first I told them not to go further with the case as I was really terrified and I don’t know what would happen now I have gathered some strength, i would like this case to be taken forward however the help of media for more publicity on this case would be appreciated so that people in this type of situation can come out and speak on their experiences to avoid further emotional and mental damages.
